Brihadeeshwara
 Temple

Built by the great Chola king, Raja Raja Cholan I in the 10th century AD. This temple is selected by UNESCO as a world heritage monuments

 Saraswathi Mahal
 Library

Established around 1700 AD, contains a collection of over 44,000 palm leaf, and paper manuscripts in Indian and European languages.

 
 

 Darasuram Temple

Built by Raja Raja Cholan- II during 1146 - 1163 AD. The front mantapa is in the form of a huge chariot drawn by horses. It is the sculptor's dream re-lived in stone.

  The Palace

Built partly by the Nayaks around 1550 AD and party by the Marathas. This was the palace watch tower and also the armoury of the thanjavur kings till 1855 A.D.
